Run a Mile. Spark a Conversation. Support Mental Health.

In 2020, ASICS elite athlete Johnny Gregorek ran a World Record mile in blue jeans to raise awareness for mental health. That effort sparked a movement.

Now ASICS is continuing that mission, inviting runners everywhere to participate in the largest Blue Jean Mile yet, including this in-person event in Providence.

Built on the belief of A Sound Mind in a Sound Body, ASICS is committed to supporting mental health.

Gansett Run Club and Run Newport are proud to partner with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Rhode Island Chapter, NAMI-RI.

During registration, participants can donate directly to NAMI-RI and support a cause that touches all of us.

  • Date: Friday, May 22 2025

  • Blue Jeans. Really. Go find the most comfortable pair of jeans you can, because you’ll need them.

Make sure it’s a pair you can actually move in. Think comfortable, broken-in - definitely not your stiffest denim.

Shoes - your normal running shoes will be perfect.

Everything else is up to you! Be creative!

  • Running in denim is uncomfortable. Talking about Mental Health can be uncomfortable.

The Blue Jean Mile is our opportunity to destigmatize that discomfort, and turn it into an opportunity to start important conversations about mental health.

It’s a reminder that struggles aren't always visible and that even small actions can help break the stigma and show support for those facing challenges.

  • This event is open to runners of all levels - whether you’re an experienced racer or just looking for a fun, meaningful way to get involved.

If you can’t attend in person, you can still take part by running a virtual Blue Jean Mile from wherever you are.
